Frequently Asked Questions
-
What to expect during the next sessions?During follow-up sessions, the physiotherapist will check with you the progress of your condition with the teachings given and the prescribed exercises. Your current situation will then be quickly reassessed, and the appropriate treatment will continue to be carried out to correct your issue as effectively as possible. Several approaches may be used, such as manual therapy, dry needling, progressive therapeutic exercises, as well as appropriate education tailored to your condition.
-
Is it necessary to have a medical referral to book an appointment? No. Physiotherapy assessment is a primary care approach that usually does not require a medical prescription. However, in some rather rare cases, your insurance may require one. Therefore, it's important to check your insurance reimbursement terms before attending your first physiotherapy session. If you already have a medical referral for a physiotherapy consultation (as well as results from other exams), feel free to bring them to the clinic to discuss with your physiotherapist. These documents may contain relevant information for the continuation of the treatment plan. The physiotherapist may also be able to answer some of your questions about these documents if needed.
-
What clothing is recommended for appointments?Comfortable clothing that allows unrestricted movement is highly recommended. For certain tests and treatment approaches (manual therapy, dry needling, etc.), you may need to undress the injured area. In this situation, wearing shorts, a tank top, or other sports undergarments is strongly recommended to facilitate access. For more specific approaches such as running assessment or cycling positioning, the equipment required for these sports will be necessary. Therefore, make sure to bring your running shoes and, for cycling, your cycling shorts, cycling shoes, and of course your bike. If you plan to come to the session by running or cycling, please try to remove as much dirt and debris from your shoes and bike before entering the clinic. Feel free to bring anything else you deem relevant.
-
What does the first meeting (initial assessment) involve?During the first session, which lasts approximately 60 minutes, the physiotherapist will ask you questions to determine the history of the injury, your history of injuries and associated health conditions, as well as your daily activities. This will allow the therapist to guide the remainder of the session and determine if physiotherapy is the right approach for you. Next, they will conduct an examination tailored to your condition using various functional, mobility, strength, or more specialized tests to determine the origin of your issues and the areas to work on. If time permits, treatment for these issues will be initiated through manual therapy, education on symptom management, and therapeutic exercises. Finally, the optimal treatment plan for subsequent sessions will be determined with your collaboration to optimize your care and correct your condition as effectively as possible. If necessary, you may be referred to other healthcare professionals who may be more suitable or who could complement the physiotherapy follow-up.
